IDEA WILD Proposal Guidelines:

► IDEA WILD will only review and approve complete proposals, so please follow these guidelines carefully.

► Your proposal must relate to biodiversity research, conservation or education.

► For the IDEA WILD application form:

A current email address is absolutely necessary, so we can confirm arrival of your proposal, communicate after we have accepted or rejected your proposal, or ask additional questions.

Your application form must include a description of how the equipment is necessary for your project.

Equipment must be priced between $50 and $1500.

Due to the uncertainty and cost of international postal services we must use creative methods of sending the requested equipment. So, we need: the name, United States address, and telephone number of a person (e.g. visiting professors, friends, relatives) who will be traveling to your country. Typically, we send the equipment to this person and they bring it to you.

It is important for you to include a detailed description of the piece of equipment, including the telephone and/or fax number, and address of the company that sells the item. The catalog number and listed price must also be included. A photocopy of the page your equipment is on would also be helpful. We suggest the following suppliers or similar ones:

We encourage the use and reuse of equipment and favor proposals that explain how the equipment will be used when the project is finished.

We do not buy desktop computers.  We only buy Pentium 3 laptops (unless your proposal well justifies a Pentium 4). 

► Your original proposal can be the one prepared for your BS, MS, Ph. D., etc. If your original proposal is in any language besides English, include a one-page summary translated into English.

► If you are a student, please include a letter of recommendation from your academic advisor.

► Please Note: We have a new policy for accepting proposals. We will accept materials by email only from the following countries: Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Belize, Peru, Bolivia, Madagascar, Ecuador, Cambodia, Indonesia and African nations. Emailed applications originating from countries not on this list will not be reviewed for approval. Applications from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina, Chile and any other country not listed must be received by mail.

► We require several months to review and approve proposals. You will be contacted about the status of your proposal via email.
